A 29-year-old man, Abiodun Elemoro, was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment for dealing in heroine.
Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court convicted him
on a one-count charge of dealing in 30.5 grammes of the banned
narcotic.
Elemoro, who pleaded guilty, was arraigned on April 26 last year.
He was arrested with the banned substance by men of the National
Drugs Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), at Palm Church Street, Lagos
Island, Lagos.
He dealt in the narcotic drug without lawful authority, contrary to
and punishable under section 11(c) of NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the
Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The convict admitted to the crime, saying he made between N3, 000 and N5, 000, 00 daily.
After his conviction, Elemoro pleaded with the judge to temper
justice with mercy. He said he was an orphan, with a nine-month old
child.

St. Louis Police Spokesman Assaults a Black Woman at Public Meeting

Roorda, a spokesman for the St. Louis Police Officer's Association,
grabbed and then shoved a woman named Cachet Currie during a meeting at
St. Louis City Hall last night, an incident which was captured on video.
Roorda, who attended the meeting wearing a bracelet reading "I am
Darren Wilson," is also accused by bystanders of scratching Currie's
face.
The St. Louis American reports that a City Hall meeting over a bill that would establish a civilian police oversight board erupted into chaos:
