Workers can't be sacked for watching porn during their lunch break, Italy's highest court has ruled.

The Court of Cassation said car manufacturer Fiat was wrong to sack a worker in Sicily for watching adult movies at work.
It marks the end of a five-year legal battle for the man, who was only identified as Guiseppe Z.
He was caught watching the hardcore DVD on his laptop at the factory in 2008.
His locker was searched and two other DVDs were discovered.
In 2010, a court in Sicily upheld the factory's decision to sack the man, triggering the protracted legal battle.
The Supreme Court said he was free to spend his lunch break how he wanted, and ruled that he should not have been sacked.

Oscar Pistorius to Be Released From Prison and moved to house arrest

Oscar Pistorius is to be released from prison next week and moved to house arrest, after the South African parole board decided to free the South African Paralympian from custody and into “correctional supervision.”  "The Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB) today, 15 October 2015, approved the placement of offender Oscar Pistorius under correctional supervision as from 20 October 2015," according to a statement today from the South African Department of Correctional Services.  "The parole board met in Pretoria for the second time following a directive of the Parole Review Board, which set aside its earlier decision to place Oscar Pistorius under correctional supervision because it was prematurely made."  The department added that Pistorius will be under correctional supervision as of Tuesday until Oct. 20, 2019.  "The Parole Board has also given the offender his correctional supervision conditions which include the directives of the Parole Review Board in respect of continued psychotherapy and prohibitions in line with the Fire Arms Control Act Section 103," according to the statement.

Nigeria on Thursday welcomed a US decision to send up to 300 military personnel to Cameroon to help the regional fight against Boko Haram, despite having itself requested more direct help from Washington.  President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman Garba Shehu said the deployment was a “welcome development” while the military said it demonstrated cooperation was needed against the Islamists.  US President Barack Obama on Thursday said 90 personnel had already been sent and the full contingent would conduct intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations.  “The United States has given the pledge to support the fight against Boko Haram in Nigeria and in the region,” Shehu told AFP by telephone.  “This is the fulfilment of that pledge and we are very happy about it. The United States’ move is quite commendable.”  Military spokesman Colonel Rabe Abubakar added: “This is how the fight can be done collectively with partners cooperating with us to fight against a common cause — terrorism — which has been ravaging the region for some time now.

Three sisters buried alive in canola seeds on family farm

A Canadian farming family is confronting shock and grief after three young girls were killed after being buried alive in a truckload of canola seeds.
The girls - 13-year-old Catie Bott and her twin sisters, Dara and Jana, both aged 11 – were killed at their Alberta farm on Tuesday, according to the local media reports.
Family members and neighbours struggled to free the girls and perform life saving techniques. Two of the girls died at the scene; the third was flown to a children’s hospital where she died from her injuries on Wednesday afternoon.
“Our kids died living life on the farm, it is a family farm. We do not regret raising and involving our kids Catie, age 13, Dara, age 11, and Jana, age 11 on our farm. It was our life,” the children’s parents said in a statement.

Obama to delay withdrawing US forces from Afghanistan

Barack Obama plans to extend the US military's role in Afghanistan and keep the current force of 9,800 troops through most of 2016, Al Jazeera has learned.
Obama had aimed to withdraw all but a small US embassy-based force in the capital Kabul before leaving office in January 2017. Under the new plan, troops will withdraw to 5,500 starting sometime in 2017, and be based in Kabul, Bagram, Jalalabad and Kandahar.
The decision comes after months of deliberations between Obama, Afghan leaders, Pentagon officials, commanders in the field and White House advisers about how best to continue to support Afghan forces, senior US administration officials said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a former Special Adviser to Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, Muktar Umar Yerima.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that Mr. Yerima, who is currently the chairman of Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State, was arrested early Saturday over alleged corruption.
He is accused of embezzling over N65m approved for participants in the Millennium Development Goals empowerment scheme in the state.

Husband and Wife Raise Awareness After Both Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Gerard and Meg Campion shared their lives for decades raising two daughters in Connecticut, but the husband and wife never expected that a life spent together would also mean sharing diagnosis of breast cancer.

In 2006, Gerard Campion was diagnosed first with the disease after spotting a tiny “blister”-like bump on his chest.

“It was obviously shocking. I think my first thought was, 'he’s not supposed to have this, I am,'" Meg Campion recalled of hearing her husband’s diagnosis. 

She said the reason he even went in for his first diagnosis was because a friend had been diagnosed with male breast cancer and they knew a little bit about the signs. After surgery and chemotherapy, the family thought their ordeal with cancer was over.

It wasn't. 

Buhari appoints Lai Mohammed, Fashola, Amaechi, Ngige and others as ministers

President Muhammadu Buhari has named the spokesperson of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Lai Mohammed, former governors Chibuike Amaechi and Babatunde Fashola, as ministers, the Senate announced Tuesday.
The Senate president, Bukola Saraki, read out 21 names on the list of nominees sent to the senate by the president last Wednesday.
The list also has Abubakar Malami, former defence chief Abdurahman Dambazzau, former governorship candidate in Taraba state, Aisha Alhassan, Adebayo Shittu, former senator, Udo Udoma and Ibrahim Jibril.
Others are Suleiman Adamu, former senator, Chris Nigige, Kemi Adeosun, Ahmed Ibeto and Hadi Sirika, former PDP chairman, Audu Ogbeh.
The list also has former Anambra governor, Ogbonnaya Onu, NNPC group managing director, Ibeh kachikwu, Amina Mohammed, Solomon Dalong, Suleaiman Adamu, and former Ekiti governor, Kayode Fayemi.

Uneducated farmer uses windmill to light up home

While the state government is worrying about the shortage of electricity, an illiterate farmer near Naragund, in Gadag district, has uninterrupted power supply for his family. He has no magic wand, but an indigenous windmill installed in his fields for the past six years. Siddappa Huljogi, 46, has been successful in carrying out experiments like setting up a mobile recharging unit using a tractor battery, and playing radio and tape recorder using a bicycle's dynamo. A resident of Bandemmana Nagar, 7km from Naragund, which has hardly 8-10 houses, he was denied a Hescom connection over a decade ago. That made Huljogi think about other sources of electricity.

Besides, windmills installed on the hills of Naragund had got him thinking: if he could replicate them, he would have power. 

Buhari must be screened if he's Petroleum Minister - Senate

The Senate's plenary session will hold tomorrow, where president Buhari's ministerial list will finally be unveiled. And according to Vanguard,

The Senators are saying the President must, in line with the constitution, submit himself before the Upper Chamber for screening if he appointed himself Minister of Petroleum. 

They are also set to reject an incomplete list, saying the constitution provides for a nominee from each state of the federation and that any list that did not cover the 36 states would suffer serious opposition on the floor of the Senate.

Beneath the mud and rock that engulfed the small Guatemalan town of Santa Catarina Pinula last week, search crews have found entire families who died huddled together after they were buried alive.At least 152 people were killed in Thursday's disaster just outside Guatemala City, government officials said on Monday evening, and emergency services chief Alejandro Maldonado said at least 300 people were still unaccounted for.
The Guatemalan Red Cross made an appeal on Twitter for dry ice at its provisional morgue in the town.
The mud that swallowed the El Cambray II neighborhood in Santa Catarina Pinula, which lies at the bottom of a deep ravine, is so deep that rescue workers are descending 39 feet (12 meters) through narrow shafts to reach the roofs of homes.

11-year-old boy charged with killing 8-year-old girl over a puppy

An 11-year-old Tennessee boy was charged with shooting an 8-year-old girl to death with a 12-gauge shotgun after an argument over a puppy Saturday, NBC affiliate WBIR reported.
A neighbor told the station that the girl, MaKayla Dyer, had been playing with neighbors on Saturday night in White Pine, outside Knoxville.
She started talking with the boy, who has not been identified, through an open window at his home.
"He asked the little girl to see her puppies," the neighbor, Chasity Atwood, told WBID. "She said no and laughed and then turned around, looked at her friend and said, 'Let's go get the — ' and never got 'puppies' out."
The boy had already shot her in the chest.
Dyer was transported to Morristown-Hamblen Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The boy is being held in juvenile court on charges of first-degree murder.

Nigerian Army vows to end terrorism by December

No amount of distractions would deter the military from ending terrorism in Nigeria by December, the country's Army said on Sunday.
Recent bombings were aimed at diverting the attention of the military from achieving its target in the ongoing anti-terrorism war, Maj.-Gen. Yushau Abubakar, the military commander in charge of northeast city of Maiduguri said.
Abubakar was reacting to recent spate of suicide bombings by suspected insurgents in parts of the country.
He said the military had already gotten clues about those involved in the recent suicide bombings in Maiduguri, capital of northeast Borno State.
"We searched the houses and certain items that we recovered at the vicinity, which gave us some clues," Abubakar said.

An Indian man, Shridar Chillal earned a Guinness World Record this week for doing, well, nothing at all. He didn't eat a bunch of hot dogs or jump off a building. All he did was forgo basic hygiene, by growing out his fingernails for an astonishingly long time.
Shridar Chillal hasn't trimmed his claws in 62 years. The last time he put scissor to nail was 1952 (to place that in perspective, Harry Truman was president of the United States at the time, and gas cost 20 cents a gallon). As a result of Chillal's refusal to trim, each of the fingers on his left hand ends in a swirling mass of keratin that cumulatively measures about 30 feet (9 meters) long.

Chimbote in Peru.
The baby has been named Angelito which means little angel. The parents of the baby have been told by the doctors that he is keeping well.
The baby will have to go through an operation to treat the unnecessary growth and provide him with a normal nose. The doctors said that he is born with this condition because of a rare genetic deformity called Patau Syndrome.

Why I want to be Minister of Petroleum Resources -- Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says he will head the Ministry of Petroleum Resources in the new cabinet.
Addressing some select reporters in New York, United States, on Tuesday, after addressing a Global Leaders' Summit on Countering ISIL and Violent Extremism, he said: "I wil remain Minister of Petroleum. I will appoint a minister of state for petroleum."
According to him, this step is being taken as part of efforts to sanitise Nigeria’s oil industry which is said to be plagued by corruption, massive fraud, and crude oil theft.
Buhari restated his determination to sanitise Nigeria's oil industry and free it from corruption and shady deals.
He said that the first step in this direction had already been taken with the appointment of a new management for the NNPC and its subsequent reorganisation.
