A 25-year-old man, identified as Wale Ede, has been detained by the
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ekiti State Police
Command for allegedly beheading one Joshua Olaseinde Fagbola, 50.
Fagbola, a father of seven and a patrol assistant with the
Directorate of Road Traffic Service (a.ka. VIO), in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti
State, was killed in an incident which occurred at about 8pm at Iro
quarters in Iyin-Ekiti in Irepodun/ Ifelodun local government area of
the state.
Ede, it was learnt, attacked the victim on the evening of Friday,
March 20, when the deceased was about to start the engine of his
motorcycle after the conclusion of the wake-keep of one of his
relatives.
He was said to have brought out a cuttlass from the umbrella he was
holding and cut down Fagbola, first from his neck and then his face and
other parts of his body.
The victim who was in the pool of his own blood eventually gave up
the ghost in the arms of his wife in an undisclosed hospital in the
community.
The Ekiti State Command Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), DSP
Alberto Adeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said that the suspect was
being held at the CID, Police headquarters, in Ado-Ekiti.
“It has been reported that Wale Ede allegedly beheaded Mr Fagbola on
March 20. It was reported that the deceased had on Thursday, March 19,
seized the suspect’s cell phone for failing to provide the blocks he had
paid him for.
“The suspect and the deceased then met at a wake keep event on March
20 where the suspect allegedly cut the deceased to death with a sharp
cutlass. We are still investigating the matter,” Adeyemi said.
