“It’s fair to say she’s not very popular at the moment.
“The threat to Sonny is still very real. Like Dale, his enemies have no morals and will do whatever it takes for revenge.”

Pro-Lawan senators move to impeach Saraki
There were indications on Friday that
members of the Senate Unity Forum had started wooing senators loyal to
the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.
Saturday PUNCH reliably gathered that the move was part of fresh efforts to change the leadership of the Senate.
The group comprises senators, who were opposed to the emergence of Saraki as senate president.
It was learnt that the SUF members, who
contacted the pro-Saraki senators, hinged their argument on the ongoing
trial of the Senate President at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
It was gathered that the group might
have succeeded in securing the support of 12 pro-Saraki senators, mainly
the Peoples Democratic Party members.
Investigations showed that the
anti-Saraki group sought the support of the senate president’s loyalists
because it had become obvious that the senate president could not be
removed without the support of some senators that were sympathetic to
him.

Over 10,000 refugees enter Hungary in new record
A new record of 10,046 refugees entered Hungary on Wednesday, mostly via Croatia, Hungarian police said on Thursday as refugees continued to pour through the western Balkans bound for northern Europe. A total of 9,939 refugees entered from Croatia, while 102 crossed from Serbia, police said. The discrepancy of five refugees in the figures was not immediately explained. The previous record was set on 14 September when 9,380 refugees crossed just before Hungary effectively sealed its border with Serbia. The closure of Hungary's border with Serbia last week led thousands of refugees to enter Croatia, quickly overwhelming authorities who then started bussing them to the Hungarian border. After crossing into Hungary, trains then take the refugees to the Austrian border. The eastern Austria state of Burgenland recorded on Wednesday 5,900 new arrivals and a further 2,200 since midnight (2200 GMT).

Troops cleared more BH terrorists camps and recover more villages
Statement released by the Defence HQ below...
Advancing troops along Banki axis cleared more terrorist camps and captured weapons, flags and improvised explosives (IEDs) making devices at Jangolori and Bulaburma villages.
The recovered items have confirmed earlier intelligence that the terrorists often used corrugated metal roofing sheets and bathroom slippers in making improvised explosive devices which affects troops advance.
In addition, it is quite clear that the campaign against the terrorists is yielding the desired result because they are fast running out of arms, ammunition and other logistics.
It is equally important to state and commend the synergy, intelligence and information sharing between our own forces and those of our neighbouring countries under the Multinational Joint Task Force . Consequently, the troops are quite optimistic that the Boko Haram terrorists would be defeated very soon.

New Virus Found in Blood Supply...
NBC News
Scientists have found a new virus that can be transmitted by blood transfusions and other blood-based products.
It looks a little like the hepatitis C virus, which can cause permanent liver damage, and a little like the human pegivirus, which appears to be harmless, the team reports in the journal mBio.
They've named it human hepegivirus-1 (HHpgV-1).
"We have been able to find a new virus. It's clearly transmitted as a result of human (blood) transfusion," said infectious disease expert Dr. Ian Lipkin, who oversaw the study team at Columbia University.
"It is the first transfusion-associated virus that's been described in a long time. We don't know if it is going to be a significant cause of human hepatitis," Lipkin told NBC News.
But probably not, the researchers said.
"So far there is no need to be concerned," said Amit Kapoor, an assistant professor at Columbia University who led the study.

Man Stabs, Removes 74-year-old Father's Heart in Lagos

Residents of Abesan Estate in the Ipaja area of Lagos State have been
thrown into confusion after a man, Nelson Oamen, stabbed his father,
Ehiremen Oamen, to death during an altercation.

PUNCH Metro
reports that Nelson, who reportedly fled his father’s apartment in
Block 272, after the incident on Friday, removed the septuagenarian’s
heart and left with it.
The Oamens, who hailed from Edo State, had been living in the estate for
over 15 years. The father, said to be a retired worker in a company in
Apapa, was battling with stroke, and usually remained
indoors.
indoors.
PUNCH Metro learnt that 34-year-old Nelson, who did not have a stable
job, was reportedly a drug addict, and had had violent clashes with
people in the area which were reported to the police.
Their correspondent learnt that at about 2pm on Friday, Nelson had gone
to his father’s apartment and an argument had ensued between the two.
Nelson, who was suspected to be high on drugs, allegedly stabbed his
father to death in his bedroom, and covered his body with a blanket.
He was said to have sneaked out of the house and had yet to be found.
Nelson’s younger sister, who did not want her name in print, reportedly
came into the house a few minutes later, and found traces of blood in
the family’s sitting room.
She was said to have discovered Ehiremen’s corpse on his bed, after which she raised the alarm.
It was gathered that some neighbours and residents, who also rushed to
the room to see Ehiremen, realised that there was a deep hole on the
left side of his chest after he had been stabbed in several places.
It was said that Nelson allegedly escaped with his father’s heart, which
the residents claimed, was responsible for the bloodstains in the
sitting room.
The matter was reported at the Ipaja Police Division.
When PUNCH Metro visited the area on Saturday, a crowd of sympathisers was observed thronging the deceased’s apartment.
Nelson’s elder sister, who came from Abeokuta, Ogun State, and also did
not want her name in print, said the family could not say what caused
the argument between her father and Nelson.
She added that Ehiremen had been physically attacked by Nelson in the past. She said:
“For about five years now, dad had been nursing a stroke, and he could not work again. So, he used to stay at home. Nelson did not have a stable location. He just came to the area on Friday.
I was told that he came in through the window before committing the act. It was his younger sister, who has a shop in the area, and came in a few minutes later to change her clothes, who first observed bloodstains in the sitting room. She then traced the bloodstains to daddy’s room, and found out that he had been killed. We have not seen any sign of Nelson since then.”
A landlord in the area, Akeem Salau, who described the deceased as an
easy-going man, said he was praying in the mosque at about 2pm, when the
news of Ehiremen’s death filtered in. He said:
“The man has eight children. Nelson is the fourth child. The young man does not have any stable job. He also smokes and drinks heavily. He does not live here, but only comes once in a while.
On that Friday, some people saw him in the afternoon. The people who saw him said he was unstable. He went into their house, and it was a few minutes later that they found the father dead. He fled immediately. When I went in to see the corpse, I observed that the old man was stabbed in several places. No one could have been so wicked except one was on drugs.”
Punch's correspondent gathered that the police in Ipaja had launched a manhunt for Nelson.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, said the
police were on the trail of Nelson and would soon get him.
