Governor Dickson emerges PDP flagbearer for Bayelsa governorship poll

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa on Thursday emerged candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the December 5 governorship elections in the state in an affirmative primary where he contested as sole candidate.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan led the way in the primary election conducted at the Samson Siasia Sports Stadium in Yenagoa.


Announcing the primary election result, the chairman of the PDP Primary Panel, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state, said the conduct of the primary indicated that the PDP was ready to set good example for other parties.



Mr. Dickson contested in the election as sole candidate following the disqualification of three candidates who purchased the expression of interest form and withdrawal of another aspirant.

According to Mr. Fayose, “a total of 476 Delegates were listed for the election, 452 people accredited, 24 absent while 5 votes were voided..

“Governor Dickson having scored 447 votes in the Bayelsa PDP governorship primary election. I hereby declare him the winner. He is now returned as the party gubernatorial candidate in the state.

“The election today, shows that PDP is united; the transparency in the election is commendable; I must say that PDP will continue to be united not only in Bayelsa but Nigeria at large.

“The people of Bayelsa have decided to support good government of the PDP in the state; it is glaring today that the people want continuity for suitable development,” he said.

In his response, Mr. Dickson expressed satisfaction for his success at the election, saying he was ready to continue to pilot the affairs of the people.

“I commend you all, for the support and today has shown that PDP is a peace party. PDP is strong in Bayelsa and no space for other parties come Dec 5.
“I hereby announced to you that my able deputy governor, John Jonah, will still be my running mate for the governorship race, I thank you all,” Mr. Dickson said.
