A man has been jailed for dressing as a paramedic and disguising his
Renault estate car as an emergency response vehicle, complete with
flashing light, to run errands for his wife, a court has heard.
Phillip Lemonheigh, 60, attached the light to the roof of the car and
had an “emergency response” sign stuck to the side. Though he had no
driving licence, he travelled at up to 73 mph and ran red lights during
shopping trips until he was caught by a speed camera.
Jailing him for 20 months on Thursday, Judge Peter Griffiths said
that, in his legal career, he had “never come across something so
bizarre”.

Traffic warden attacked woman with a hammer because she crossed the road when the light was red [photos]
A Chinese traffic warden violently attacked a pedestrian with a hammer because she crossed the road when the light was red.
The
patrol officer, who has not been named, hit the pedestrian repeatedly
over the head with an iron hammer, after the woman ignored her command
to not cross the road at 6pm on Tuesday in eastern Shandong province.
People
on the scene said the warden had been involved with a number of
arguments with the woman in the past because she frequently ignored the
traffic signals, reported the People's Daily Online.
The warden,
whose uniform indicated she was a volunteer, waited until the signal
turned green before running over to the woman, who was at this point
already half way across the road.
As she attacked the pedestrian, the warden reportedly shouted: 'I won't let you run the red light'.
The victim, who was left lying unconscious in the middle of the road, was rushed to hospital.
According to
eyewitness reports, the patrol officer tried to explain to shocked
onlookers that it had been the victim's fault for ignoring the red
light.
She was arrested at the scene and remains under investigation.
Pedestrians caught ignoring traffic signals, which is illegal in China, can be fined 10 yuan (£1).

Woman attacked and buried alive by a Bear [Photos]
A Russian
woman has been buried alive by a bear which was apparently saving her
for its next meal after attacking and seriously injuring her.
Mother-of-two
Natalya Pasternak, 55, had a miracle escape after her friend managed to
flee the forest near Tynda in the Amur region and raise the alarm.
Having
left her with serious injuries, the bear mistakenly believed the postal
worker to be dead and partially buried her beneath a pile of leaves -
apparently planning to return later and eat her.
When rescuers arrived at the scene, the bear attempted to attack them too.
In order to save the woman's life, the group had no choice but to shoot and kill the highly-aggressive four year old female.
After
killing the bear, the rescuers noticed the woman's arm, bloodied from
claw wounds, jutting out of a pile of leaves and sticks.
But having been rescued alive, the woman is now fighting for her life in nearby Tynda Hospital.

President Barack Obama - leader of the free world, Nobel Peace Prize winner and leader of the Democratic Party - has taken a swipe at Fox News.
Speaking at a Georgetown University conference about poverty, Obama
addressed topics including family, the media, the economy and budgets. On top of the serious talk, Obama made a pretty decent gag about the right-wing news station and giving away "free Obamaphones".
"There's always been a strain in American politics where you've got the middle class and the question's been: who are you mad at - if you're struggling? If you're working, but you don't seem to be getting ahead," he said.
