A couple are accused of grooming a teenage student with learning
difficulties into prostitution for five years on the false 'promise' of a
£13 million film deal.
David Delay and Marysa Comer are alleged
to have told the 19-year-old girl and a number of other victims they
were shooting a documentary film about why escorting should be legal,
reports the Seattle Times.
A criminal
complaint filed in court says the victim was told to give the pair all
the money she earned as a prostitute during filming, in exchange for $20
million once the film was produced.
It added they wanted her to work as a prostitute, at cities across
the US, as part of their 'documentary', even giving her a contract
committing themselves to the huge sum.
The victim was also beaten if she complained about clients, it is alleged.
Charges
allege Comer lured the developmentally disabled victim into a three-way
relationship with Delay and persuaded her to engage in prostitution in
several states including Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada.
The
pair were originally charged following an investigation by Redmond
police, but the case has been taken over by federal prosecutors, which
obtained conspiracy and interstate sex-trafficking charges against the
couple.
The girl's ordeal is alleged to have started about five years ago, ending last December, when she reported the couple to police.
DeLay,
48, was arrested in January at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport
after arriving on a flight from Chicago, then charged with three counts
of promoting prostitution in the second degree, one count of extortion
in the second degree and one count of tampering with a witness and
trafficking, reported the Redmond Reporter.
Comer, 20, was
arrested the next day at a Chicago hotel and was later charged with
three counts of promoting prostitution in the second degree, one count
of extortion in the second degree, one count of tampering with a
witness, cyber-stalking and criminal impersonation in the first degree.
The newspaper reported the couple are alleged to have targeted other young women aged up to 24.
Both were remanded in federal custody.
