Mr Ola Oresanya, the Managing Director of the authority, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said that the job creation was indirect because the waste collectors and street sweepers were employed by companies registered by LAWMA to do these jobs.
According to him, there are 360 Private Sector Participants (PSP) registered to evacuate wastes from different parts of the state and 10,000 workers are working for the operators.
“There are also 180 companies registered for road sweeping and these companies engaged more than 15,000 street sweepers,” he said.
Oresanya appealed to Lagos residents to use toll free lines provided by the authority to make official complaints about its services.
“That is why we have the toll free line numbers, members of the public should make use of the numbers and call or send text messages to register their complaints.
“All we want is where the sweepers are working, and what area and spot, so that we can easily identify the location and know who is responsible for the lapses.
“Every litter on a Lagos Street is calibrated for each sweeper.
“So, if you can just name the spot where you see any infringement, we will know who is responsible and a reprimand will be applied both on the sweeper and the supervisor,’’ he said.
Oresanya said that all highway sweepers were provided with necessary tools to cart away debris and waste.
“Our trucks are also designated to move all wastes at different spots including road sides,’’ he said.

He said that periodically, more road signs were placed on the roads due to the sensitivity of the Lagos roads.
