Why I Contested For Presidency 3 Times Before – Buhari Discloses

Speaking on May 13, Wednesday, during a visit by Delta state All Progressives Congress members to Abuja, the politician said he had contested because he wanted freedom for Nigeria.
The president-elect was quoted as saying by The Punch:

“Going through the court is not easy, both materially and physically, and I maintained that consistency because my view about my country is that Nigeria should be truly free.”
Buhari also repeated the ideas expressed during a visit by the Rivers state delegation regarding violence during the recently concluded general elections:
“I understand why many of you, who were denied the opportunity to choose those you want to represent and lead you are taking the line I took in the last 12 years – in line with our constitution.


“Whether you get it or not, the most important thing is that you believe in the system and you should continue to try until the system is perfect.
“I express my condolence to you for the people murdered and I assure you that my objective of remaining consistently in partisan politics is to make sure that Nigerians are given their inherent right to choose whoever they want to lead them.”
He vowed to focus on the development of the country, for Nigerians to be proud and respected globally. Buhari said that security would be his major priority.
Otega Emerhor, the delegation leader, made an allegation against the Peoples Democratic Party:
“As our submission to the tribunal in respect of the governorship and state assembly elections will demonstrate, in truth, the majority of Deltans were ready for the change you represent and were geared to vote massively for you and APC.
“Unfortunately, a grand design executed by the PDP in the South-South and South- East and particularly in Delta, Rivers and Akwa Ibom made sure that no proper elections took place.”
In another development, speaking on Wednesday Buhari claimed he was not endorsing anybody for the position of the Senate president or speaker of the House of Representatives.
According to PM News, the newly elected leader dismissed circulating rumours on the matter:
“I am prepared to work with any leaders that the House or Senate selects. It doesn’t matter who the person is or where he or she is from.
“There is due process for the selection of leaders of the National Assembly and I will not interfere in that process.”
Concluding, Buhari promised to avoid mistakes made by President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration and added that “Nigeria has indeed entered a new dispensation”.
