Urban climbers scale world's second tallest building - and take these stomach-churning pictures

Fear-inducing photos show the terrifying 660 metre drop beneath two urban climbers as they scale new financial centre in China

These stomach-churning pictures show the terrifying drop beneath two urban climbers as they scale the world's second tallest building.

The dangerous ascent of the new financial centre in China's Shenzhen province was undertaken by Vitaliy Raskalov and Vadim Makhorov, 21 and 25, photographers from Ukraine and Russia.

They filmed and photographed the nail-biting climb as part of their On The Roofs project dedicated to extreme urban exploration.

The height of Shenzhen's new financial centre is currently 660 metres - or almost half a mile high - making it the second tallest tower in the world after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Posting on the On The Roofs website, the intrepid photographers said: "For more than a year ago we’ve climbed Shanghai Tower certainly not expecting the resonance and the amount of feedback we’ve got.

"And so, that amount of feedback led us to an idea of making a tradition of roof-topping new skyscrapers all around the world.

"Today’s hero of attention is a new financial centre, still under construction and is situated in Shenzhen, China.

"This time we went through a thorough preparation as we knew that not all predecessors who tried to conquer it had the luck to succeed."

"We were quite certain that the guards would have a clue that there are some Europeans out there willing to climb that building," they continued. "Climb and, of course, make a video.

"They certainly were not willing to let us get to the top (literary) but hey what is there to stop a good plan and determined guys?

"So well, that was easier than the Shanghai Tower, at least because we didn’t have to sleep our way up to the top for 18 hours on the construction territory.

"But it was still, frankly saying, just plane awesome! Well, no more descriptions and explanations, just check it out for yourself."

Internet followers took up the challenge posting their reactions on On The Roof's You Tube page.

"I just threw up, and the puke on my laptop was easier to look at than that view," said a poster called Mr Unemployed.

Another DJMixomnia said: "Does anybody else get sweaty hands when watching this?"

Richard Alpert wondered: "Do these dudes have parachutes on their back or are they done if they slip? This is insane, I almost choke from watching this."

Fittingly, the photographers chose Chinese New Year to make the ascent, which is not their first extreme urban climb.

The fearless pair have also scaled the Pyramid of Cheops, Cologne Cathedral, the Shanghai Tower, the "top star of one of the Stalin’s high-rises" – the Seven Sisters buildings, and others over the last five years.

All of the climbs are documented in photographs and videos on the On The Roofs website.
